The film follows the origin story of Arthur Curry, played by Jason Momoa, who is half-human and half-Atlantean. Arthur, also known as Aquaman, possesses the ability to communicate with marine life, swim at superhuman speeds, and has incredible strength. He initially appears in the movie "Justice League" before his standalone film.
Years later, Arthur's half-brother Orm (played by Patrick Wilson) seeks to unite the underwater kingdoms and wage war against the surface world. Orm believes that the pollution and mistreatment of the oceans by humans justify this conflict. Mera (played by Amber Heard), an Atlantean princess, seeks Arthur's help to prevent this war and claim his rightful place as the king of Atlantis.
Arthur is initially reluctant but agrees to accompany Mera to Atlantis to retrieve a powerful trident that can prove his worth as the true king. Along their journey, they face numerous challenges, including battles with Atlantean soldiers, encounters with mythical sea creatures, and a pursuit by Black Manta (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a vengeful pirate seeking revenge against Arthur.
Throughout the film, Arthur discovers more about his Atlantean heritage, the responsibilities that come with his powers, and his destiny to become the bridge between the surface world and Atlantis. He must confront his own doubts and insecurities before facing Orm in an epic battle for the throne of Atlantis.
In the climax, Arthur dons the iconic Aquaman suit and, with the help of Mera, allies from both the surface world and Atlantis, and the newly acquired trident, challenges Orm's claim to the throne in a colossal underwater battle. Ultimately, Arthur emerges victorious, saving both the surface world and Atlantis from destruction.
The movie concludes with Arthur accepting his role as the true king of Atlantis and vowing to protect both the ocean and the surface world. It sets the stage for further adventures of Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe.
