The story begins with Thor, the God of Thunder, imprisoned by a fire demon named Surtur, who reveals that the prophesied destruction of Thor's homeworld, Asgard, known as "Ragnarok," is imminent. Thor escapes and returns to Asgard, only to find that his mischievous adopted brother, Loki, has been impersonating their father, Odin. Thor forces Loki to reveal Odin's location on Earth, where they find him near the end of his life. Odin warns his sons about their long-lost sister, Hela, the Goddess of Death, who will be released upon his passing.
As Odin passes away, Hela emerges and easily overpowers Thor and Loki, forcing them out into space. Hela then arrives in Asgard, taking control and subjugating the people. Thor crash-lands on the planet Sakaar, ruled by the eccentric Grandmaster, who forces Thor to participate in gladiatorial games. Thor is pitted against the reigning champion, none other than his fellow Avenger, the Hulk. Thor seeks to assemble a team to escape and save Asgard from Hela's tyranny, and his allies include a disgraced Asgardian warrior, Valkyrie, and a rock creature named Korg.
"Thor: Ragnarok" combines action, adventure, and humor, distinguishing itself with its vibrant and colorful aesthetic and a more lighthearted tone compared to previous Thor films. The movie explores themes of family, identity, and the responsibilities that come with power. It also sets the stage for future MCU storylines, particularly leading into the crossover event film "Avengers: Infinity War."
Overall, "Thor: Ragnarok" is an entertaining and visually stunning superhero film that reinvigorated the Thor franchise with its fresh approach and memorable characters.
